Security Gets Ready

Location: Security Offices.

While most of the department had taken a couple of days to relax, Bat and Ariel had taken that time to go over the information gained from the interactions they had with the Hirogen and create new simulations to help their teams to be ready for any future encounters.

Bat leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples. "I have to say, Ariel, I respect the Hirogen's training and their ability to adapt on the fly. We could all learn from it."

Ariel got up and ordered a pot of tea and two cups. "I agree. They are formidable adversaries." Passing a cup of tea to Bat, she continued. "With a few days of training, I'm confident that we'll be ready for almost anything they can throw at us. We need to incorporate some fluidity to our training programs to ensure our teams are able to adapt to situations more readily."

"Thanks for this." Bat said as he raised his cup. "Our teams are already pretty flexible and able to adapt quickly, but I see your point that there's room for improvement." Taking a sip, he set the cup down before continuing. "I'm happy with the team we have and look forward to getting to know the new members that have recently came onboard. I'd like a 4 hour training routine set up with an hour's debrief afterwards so that they can go over where they need to improve and help identify each other's strengths and weaknesses."

"That's definitely doable. I'll set up a schedule to start first thing tomorrow if you can recall the department."

Bat rolled his eyes. "Why do I always have to be the hard ass bad guy?"

Ariel smiled. "Don't act like you don't enjoy it. We've worked together too long for that. I know you enjoy it."

"I guess I do, but you could be the bad guy from time to time too, you know."

"I know, but why take it away from you?" Ariel laughed.

"Fine, I'll do it." Bat smiled.

Just as he closed the comm line, Seamus strode into the office. "You're a hell of a lot braver than I am, Bat. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to make that call."

"That's a load of crap ... sir. You've made that call more often in the time we've worked together than I have in my whole career."

Seamus laughed. "I guess so, but I've seen how much our department has been enjoying Iota Station. Dragging them out of there won't make them too happy."

"Well, we need to get started on our training, sir."

"Drop the sir, Bat. I'm just busting your ass. I agree with and completely support your decision. If anyone gives you any flack, tell them they can bring it up with me and I'll tell them as much."

"I know, Seamus." Bat replied.

Shaking his head, Seamus couldn't believe he'd fallen for Bat's fake hurt feelings again. "Damnit man!!"

Bat and Ariel both laughed. "Anyways, I think we're good here for tonight." Ariel said. "How about we call it a night and head off?"

Seamus and Bat nodded in agreement. "See you tomorrow." They said in unison.
